Harry Redknapp has been talking about Newcastle United.

The former Bournemouth boss discussing Eddie Howe and his team now nine weeks into the new season.

A 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon at the Amex Stadium.

Newcastle United set to face the Seagulls on their return to Premier League action after the latest international break.

Harry Redknapp talking ahead of Newcastle United playing away at Brighton:

“Another game that I think we could see plenty of action. Brighton are a hard team to work out this season. They’ve beaten some of the big boys but slipped up against the sides you’d fancy them against! They could easily have another 5 or 6 points.

“It’s a same story for Newcastle, the amount of late goals they’ve conceded is unbelievable. That was a good win at Forest though and I do see signs that they’re looking more like themselves.

“I can see Newcastle being a real threat from set-piece and think their pace and physicality will cause problems. Another 2-2!

“One to watch – Woltemade is beginning to find his feet and chipping in with some goals. He got his first for Germany against Northern Ireland and will fancy one here.

“Prediction: Brighton 2 Newcastle 2”

I agree with a fair bit of what Harry Redknapp says BUT Nick Woltemade played really well and scored the winning goal only 29 minutes into his United debut five weeks ago against Wolves. Then has also scored in each of his last three matches (all competitions) for Newcastle, so an outstanding start to his NUFC career so far, rather than now ‘beginning to find his feet…’

Always a lot of talk each time Newcastle play at Brighton about how poor the NUFC record is down there. However, I think plenty of other clubs would be more than happy if they’d lost just two of their last seven league matches at Brighton, as is the case with Newcastle United. Although for Harry Redknapp and others predicting a draw on Saturday, it is understandable, as five of the last seven league clashes at the Amex Stadium have finished level.

As Harry Redknapp points out, Brighton have been inconsistent this season.

They defeated Man City at the end of August and also beat them at the Amex last season, indeed, Man City have lost three of their last six PL matches at Brighton, drawing one and winning only two.

Further evidence that Brighton relish playing certain top teams, is evidenced by the fact that Liverpool have lost at Brighton last season and the last three PL matches down there have ended in two Brighton wins and a draw, as well as a defeat in the FA Cup down there for the scousers in 2023.

However, at home this season, the Seagulls could only draw against Fulham and Spurs, whilst in their last Premier League match they needed a late equaliser to avoid defeat at bottom club Wolves.

Newcastle have kept a clean sheet in five of their seven Premier League matches, including all three of the away ones. With Brighton conceding at least once in all seven PL matches this season, the message appears clear. If Eddie Howe’s side can make it six clean sheets in eight PL games, then every chance of getting what would be a huge victory on Saturday. Nick Woltemade has scored in the last three NUFC matches (all competitions) and United have scored 11 goals in their last four games.

Hopefully Saturday at Brighton sees Eddie Howe’s side continue to move in the right direction.
