Newcastle 2 Manchester City 1 – Saturday 22 November 2025 5.30pm

Instant fan/writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.

Nat Seaton:

‘What a game!!

The REAL Newcastle turned up tonight and were brilliant.

We went toe to toe with them and thoroughly deserved all three points.

Our England full backs are a joy to watch, what futures they both have, so good to have them back.

Special mention for Barnes and his two goals to win us the game.

Bring on Marseille…’

Billy Miller:

‘After losses for Sunderland and Liverpool it would be the perfect day if we managed to overcome Man City.

We did it and possession and shots aside, I felt we were well worth the victory.

We created the better chances and on another day Woltemade could have had a hat-trick.

Instead Barnes was the hero with a brace. One brilliant goal and one opportunistic one.

The second goal so vital after a sloppy equaliser that could have seen us capitulate and fall to defeat.

It only puts us back into 14th but surely we must have the confidence to put a run together now.’

GToon:

‘About time. Get in !’

Matt Busby said…:

‘That’s a scalp. Absolutely brilliant.

Both sides had chances but we were deserved winners.

So many contenders for MOTM but it’s got to be Harvey Barnes with that brace.

Barnes will tear you apart, again!’

David Punton:

‘I don’t think you can underestimate the importance of that win.

We really needed that. A massive three points against that Man City team off the back of an agonising international break.

It was a great team performance and just what the manager needed.

Barnes bring goals to Newcastle.

Pep Guardiola livid with the wining goal and on the pitch to remonstrate at full time. Not happy. Credit to Barnes though, it was a cute finish. The VAR ruled him onside so Pep felt the keeper was fouled.

For once we weren’t made to pay for other missed chances in the game.

Midfield was back to its best today. Joelinton a powerhouse and Bruno ran the game. Thiaw immense at the back – again.

Party time tonight. We’ve moved up that table! ‘

The Armchair Fan:

‘Whoo hoo! Party time! Fully deserved win from a brilliant performance.

The perfect result to kick start our season. GET IN! ‘

Tony Mallabar:

‘What a result.

I always go to every game thinking we will win..but on social media this morning some deluded smb wanted us to win because it would help one of their Champions League rivals lose points…

Oh, if Carlsberg did irony, them losing to Fulham and even better luckypool get beat.’

Mark Jankowski:

‘Newcastle delivered the performance that was sorely needed and secured a massive 3 points.

It was a magnificent effort that saw our whole team turn up in a way they haven’t done for weeks.

If we can harness that energy for the coming weeks we’ll soon find ourselves back around the top 4 in no time at all!’
