It is the Carabao Cup quarter-finals up next.
The four ties to be played on three separate dates in the run up to Christmas.
On Tuesday 16 December it is Cardiff v Chelsea with an 8pm kick-off.
Then Wednesday 17 December it is Man City v Brentford and a 7.30pm start.
That same night (Wednesday 17 December) it is Newcastle v Fulham with an 8.15pm kick-off.
Before then finally it is Arsenal v Crystal Palace on Tuesday 23 December and an 8pm start.
So it is seven Premier League clubs still in the competition, plus Cardiff City, who are currently four points clear at the top of League One.
For those that get through the quarter-finals, they will face a two-legged semi-final.
Those semi-finals will see the first legs played in the week commencing Monday 12 January 2026, then the second legs the week commencing Monday 2 February 2026.
The final is even later this year (used to be late February), to be staged at Wembley on Sunday 22 March 2026.
If Newcastle United get through to the semi-finals, one positive fact is that whilst United’s overall performance across 60+ years in the competition has been shocking, until the arrival of Eddie Howe. The fact remains that Newcastle United have never failed so far to get through the League Cup semi-finals, having done so in 1976, 2023 and 2025.
