Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.

Chris Sutton speaking ahead of Saturday’s match.

Newcastle United facing Burnley, who came up again from the Championship earlier this year.

United facing Scott Parker’s side at St James’ Park in a 3pm kick-off.

The Newcastle United players knowing it is imperative that they make it 10 points from their last four Premier League matches, with a win today.

Burnley arriving on a run of five PL defeats in a row.

Chris Sutton talking to BBC Sport – 1 December 2025:

“Not many predictions seem straightforward anymore but this one does.

“Burnley have lost five games in a row and I don’t see things changing here.

“Their main issue is still that they don’t score enough goals, while only Wolves have conceded more than them this season.

“I always think Newcastle look so dangerous but they haven’t found any consistency this season, as we saw with their draw against Tottenham.

“Even so, they should be pretty comfortable here.

“Prediction: Newcastle 2 Burnley 0”

My thoughts

Difficult to find fault with anything the BBC Sport pundit says here.

As Chris Sutton points out, Burnley struggle to score goals. Only two Premier League clubs have scored less goals than the 15 Burnley have managed in 14 PL games.

They face a Newcastle United side who in their last seven home games, in all competitions, have scored at least twice in each of these seven matches.

If Eddie Howe’s side keep going with that 2+ goals per game at home average, they should be winning this comfortably. Just so long as course we don’t see any defending along the lines of that second Spurs goal on Tuesday night.
