An official Newcastle United injury update has followed Saturday night’s victory at St James’ Park.

United picking up a brilliant win against Manchester City.

The 2-1 final scoreline doing scant justice to just how good Newcastle were, the winning margin could and should have been bigger if a number of glorious chances had been put away.

Happily the two excellent finishes that Harvey Barnes did put away, were enough to give Eddie Howe’s team this very deserved win.

An excellent team performance and no weak links, as they all pulled together to deliver a very important boost in the Premier League.

For Eddie Howe and Newcastle United though, some injury worries ahead of Marseille in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe delivering this official Newcastle United injury update after the win over Manchester City:

Eddie Howe on Anthony Gordon who didn’t make Saturday’s matchday squad:

“Anthony is very close.

“He was just not quite ready today.

“He is working hard and he will be ready in the next few days.”

Eddie Howe on Kieran Tripper, who didn’t make Saturday’s matchday squad, some journalists reported it ahead of the game as a minor hamstring problem that caused him to be left out:

“I’m not sure if Kieran will make it (the Marseille match).

“I am awaiting feedback from the medical team.”

Eddie Howe on Lewis Hall, who had to be subbed off late on:

“I have not had a detailed debrief from  the medical team but cramp is what I am led to believe it is.”

Eddie Howe didn’t mention them but it looks pretty clear that two other squad players weren’t available for this Manchester City match. The Head Coach filled the bench with an extra keeper (Ruddy) and no sign of Jamaal Lascelles or Emil Krafth.

Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento were outstanding on their returns to the starting eleven but Eddie Howe will be trying to ensure the risks are minimised of putting them at risk of injury again. So a tricky balancing act with Marseille following so quickly on Tuesday.

One positive for Eddie Howe is that Dan Burn will be available for this Champions League clash, having been suspended for the Man City game in the Premier League.
