Rousing the Kop – NUFC The Mag

I always thought it was interesting that for Liverpool fans, one of their independent fan websites is called Rousing The Kop.

I found it interesting due to the fact that it seems to imply that The Kop may need rousing from its slumbers.

That was certainly the case at the weekend.

I watched some of the Liverpool v Everton match on TV and at first I thought the sound must have been turned down.

I then realised that the sound of a big derby match at Anfield is the sound of silence.

The only noise was coming from the Everton fans.

I guess in some ways this isn’t altogether surprising.

A lot of the Liverpool fans aren’t from Liverpool, so they wouldn’t necessarily appreciate the importance of a local derby.

But you might have expected some of those Liverpool fans who actually come from the city to make some noise.

If those Liverpool fans want to experience the sound and the passion of a proper derby, then maybe they should tune in for Newcastle v Sunderland later this season.
